Turkey Detains 9 Suspects Over Attack Outside Israeli Consulate in Istanbul
Turkish authorities detained nine people in connection with a shootout outside the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul that killed one assailant. Two other assailants, brothers Onur C. and Enes C., were wounded and captured; two police officers sustained minor injuries.
The attackers traveled from Izmit in a rented car and had links to a religious-exploiting group, per Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci.
One Assailant Dead, Two Captured in Consulate Attack; Consulate Was Closed
The attack occurred Tuesday in Istanbul's financial district; Israel had closed the consulate and withdrawn diplomats due to security concerns post-Gaza war. Officials noted the consulate was empty at the time, preventing further violence.
Israel's Foreign Ministry condemned the incident and praised Turkish response.
Erdogan Holds Phone Call with US President Trump
Turkish President Erdogan spoke by phone with US President Trump, stressing the two-week ceasefire should be used for lasting peace. He emphasized not missing opportunities that harm the truce implementation.
Turkey will continue supporting peace efforts, according to the presidential office.
